There are various conflicting reports about clearing in Belize. We want to report briefly how we experienced it today, June 26th, 2023 in San Pedro. Anticipated: it was very effective and personable.
Über das Einklarieren in Belize gibt es diverse widersprüchliche Erfahrungsberichte. Wir wollen kurz berichten wie wir es heute dem 26.06.2023 in San Pedro erlebt haben. Vorweggenommen: es war sehr effektiv und sympathisch.
Approach to San Pedro
In San Miguel de Cozumel we cleared Mexico and 6 days later at around 06:30 in the morning we reach the cut through the coral belt in front of San Pedro. The Navionics charts on our ship plotter are simply wrong. The coordinates we received for a control point and the yellow buoy also do not correspond to the facts. So the approach is unnecessarily exciting, but succeeds without any problems.
Even before the passage through the coral reef, we tried several times in vain to register with the Belize Port Authority via VHF Channel 16. We send a Notice of Arrival email to vto@portauthority.bz to prevent additional charges.
In San Miguel de Cozumel haben wir in Mexiko ausklariert und erreichen 6 Tage später gegen 06:30 Uhr morgens das Cut durch den Korallengürtel vor San Pedro. Die Navionics Karten auf unserem Schiffsplotter sind schlicht falsch. Auch die uns übermittelten Koordinaten für einen Ansteuerungspunkt und die gelbe Tonne entsprechen nicht den Tatsachen. So ist die Anfahrt unnötig spannend, gelingt aber unproblematisch.
Schon vor der Passage durch das Korallenriff haben wir mehrfach vergeblich versucht, uns per VHF Channel 16 bei Belize Port Authority anzumelden. Wir senden eine Notice of Arrival-Mail an vto@portauthority.bz und verhindern so Zusatzkosten.
Clearance in Belize
For the clearance procedure in Belize, www.sailclear.com has to be filled out, which we did a few days ago.
We drop anchor and relax a little. Around 10:00 a.m. we take the dinghy to the diving school “Amigos del Mare” and explain that we want to clear in. With this, the employee of the diving school sets a routine in motion that is very effective and, despite 5 different authorities involved, completes the whole procedure after an hour. The diving school employee informs all 5 authorities, whose employees then come to the diving school at short notice. He also prints out the documentation from Sailclear after we’ve logged onto his computer. He also copies passports, ship registration and the Zarpe from Mexico 5 times each.
Of course, various forms must also be filled out. Usually with recurring information that is actually already available from Sailclear. In our case, a normal ship inspection is avoided, since another ship is said to have arrived and all officials are in a hurry.
Brigitta calculates the pending fees and gets cash at the next ATM or at the third ATM, since the first two are out of order. All fees are to be paid cash in BZ$.
Für das Einklarierungsverfahren in Belize ist www.sailclear.com auszufüllen, was wir schon vor ein paar Tagen erledigt haben.
Wir gehen vor Anker und erholen uns erst einmal ein wenig. Gegen 10:00 Uhr fahren wir mit dem Dingy zur Tauchschule „Amigos del Mare“ und erklären, dass wir einklarieren wollen. Hiermit setzt der Mitarbeiter der Tauchschule eine Routine in Bewegung, die sehr effektiv ist und trotz 5 verschiedener beteiligter Behörden, das ganze Prozedere nach einer Stunde abschließt. Der Mitarbeiter der Tauchschule informiert alle 5 Behörden, deren Mitarbeiter dann auch kurzfristig in die Tauchschule kommen. Außerdem druckt er die Unterlagen aus Sailclear aus, nachdem wir auf seinem Rechner eingeloggt haben. Außerdem kopiert er Pässe, Registratur des Schiffes und die Zarpe aus Mexiko je 5 mal.
Natürlich sind zusätzlich noch diverse Formblätter auszufüllen. In der Regel mit wiederkehrenden Angaben, die eigentlich schon bei Sailclear stehen. Von einer üblichen Schiffsinspektion wird in unserem Fall Abstand genommen, da ein weiteres Schiff eingelaufen sein soll und alle Beamten es eilig haben.
Brigitta überschlägt die anstehenden Gebühren und besorgt schon mal Bargeld beim nächsten ATM, bzw. beim dritten ATM, da die ersten zwei out of order sind. Alle Gebühren sind cash in BZ$ zu bezahlen.
