Wir sind zurück von unserem Heimaturlaub in Deutschland. Von Hongkong kommend haben wir noch einige Tage in der Vuda Marina auf Fidschi gebucht, um Arbeiten an MariaNoa durchzuführen, die unterwegs unmöglich sind.
We are back from our home vacation in Germany. Coming from Hong Kong, we have booked a few more days in the Vuda Marina in Fiji to carry out work on MariaNoa that is impossible en route.
Back to MariaNoa
Jedes Mal wenn wir nach längerer Abwesenheit auf MariaNoa zurückkehren, ist die Spannung groß. Aber auch dieses Mal gibt es weder Schimmel- noch Insektenbefall.
Every time we return to MariaNoa after a long absence, the excitement is great. But this time too there is no mold or insect infestation.
Zu Übungszwecken entferne ich in geringer Höhe am Mast alte Umlenkrollen, die schon lange nicht mehr benutzt werden. Hier bringe ich auch das erste Mal die Autofolie zum Einsatz. Mit dem Mast direkt vor der Nase ist es schwierig, die Folie horizontal aufzukleben. Auch ganz blasenfrei wird die Oberfläche leider nicht.
For practice purposes, I remove old pulleys that have not been used for a long time at a low height on the mast. This is also the first time I’m using the car film. With the mast directly in front of your nose, it is difficult to stick the film horizontally. Unfortunately, the surface is not completely free of bubbles.
Endless Line
Die bisher vorhandenen Umlenkrollen in der Endlosleine zum Furler des Gennacker habe ich durch Rollen mit Klemmen ersetzt. Hierdurch erhoffe ich mir zusätzliche Sicherheit, dass der Gennacker sich nicht ungewollt entrollt. Um die Rollen zu tauschen musste die Endlosleine aufgeschnitten und somit ersetzt werden.
I replaced the previously existing pulleys in the endless line to the Gennacker’s furler with pulleys with clamps. I hope that this will provide additional security so that the Gennacker does not unroll unintentionally. In order to swap the roles, the endless line had to be cut open and replaced.
First Landing
Gleich neben Vuda Marina liegt das Resort „First Landing“. Wir genießen bei einem Drink den Sonnenuntergang bevor wir zu MariaNoa ins Marinagelände zurückkehren.
Right next to Vuda Marina is the “First Landing” resort. We enjoy the sunset with a drink before returning to MariaNoa in the marina area.
Masthead
In 18 Meter Höhe ist der Mast glücklicherweise genauso ruhig wie weiter unten. In zwei Eimern habe ich hoffentlich alles Werkzeug dabei, das ich brauche. Der Arbeitsablauf ist ähnlich, wie weiter unten. Zunächst werden die erst kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen wieder demontiert. Hierfür müssen die hochfesten Monel Blindnieten ausgebohrt werden.
Fortunately, at a height of 18 meters, the mast is just as quiet as it is further down. Hopefully I have all the tools I need in two buckets. The workflow is similar to that below. First, the recently installed sheet bushings are dismantled. To do this, the high-strength Monel blind rivets must be drilled out.
Der Arbeitsbereich mit seinen verbleibenden Bohrungen wird mit der Autofolie beklebt. Daraufhin werden je ein StandUpBlock von Lewmar für den Parasailor und den Gennacker montiert. Entstanden war die Neuordnung des Masttops durch den neuen Gennacker. Um diesen zu befestigen, musste wiederum der Befestigungspunkt für den Parasailor weiter nach oben verschoben werden. Die kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen hatten leider zum Schamfielen der Fallen geführt – so konnte das nicht bleiben.
The work area with its remaining holes is covered with the car film. A StandUpBlock from Lewmar is then installed for the Parasailor and the Gennacker. The result was the reorganization of the masthead by the new gennacker. In order to attach this, the attachment point for the parasailor had to be moved further up. Unfortunately, the recently installed sheet ducts had caused the halyards to fall – it couldn’t stay that way.
Lazybag
Das zweite Projekt ist der Lazybag. Sehr schnell stellt sich heraus, dass der mitgebrachte Stoff mit dem alten Lazybag identisch ist aber für einen neuen Lazybag nicht ausreicht. Es wird also nur ein Reparaturprojekt. Auf dem Steg kann ich den Stoff auslegen, um die benötigten Teile erst anzuzeichnen und dann zuzuschneiden. Zusätzlich zu den vorhandenen Abdeckungen will ich einen Reißverschluss vorsehen. Unsere auf Tahiti erstandene Sailrite-Nähmaschine kommt zum Einsatz. Tagelang werden zunächst vorhandene Bauteile aufgetrennt, um dann mit neu zugeschnittenen Stoffteilen wieder zusammen gefügt zu werden.
The second project is the lazy bag. It quickly turns out that the material they brought with them is identical to the old lazy bag but is not enough for a new lazy bag. So it will just be a repair project. I can lay out the fabric on the bridge so that I can first mark the parts I need and then cut them. In addition to the existing covers, I want to provide a zipper. Our Sailrite sewing machine, which we purchased in Tahiti, is used. Existing components are first separated for days and then reassembled with newly cut pieces of fabric.
Viele Nachbarsegler nehmen Anteil am Fortschritt des Projektes und freuen sich mit mir, als ich nach drei Tagen Fertigstellung melden kann. Die Montage des Lazybag und des demontierten Grosssegels dauert einen zusätzlichen Tag. Da der Wind stark von der Seite bläst, kann das Segel nicht gesetzt werden. Zwangsläufig gibt es einige wenige falsch geführte Schoten, was dann aber bei der ersten Ausfahrt korrigiert werden kann.
Many neighboring sailors are taking part in the progress of the project and are happy with me when I report completion after three days. The assembly of the lazy bag and the dismantled mainsail takes an additional day. Because the wind is blowing strongly from the side, the sail cannot be hoisted. Inevitably there are a few misguided sheets, but this can be corrected on the first trip.
Shopping
Wir haben einen Mietwagen gebucht, um einkaufen zu fahren. Neben den obligatorischen Besorgungen im Supermarkt, wie Getränke, Mehl und Fleisch, genießen wir das vielfältige Angebot auf dem riesigen, täglich stattfindenden Markt für Obst und Gemüse. Auch Kava kann hier gekauft werden.
We booked a rental car to go shopping. In addition to the obligatory shopping at the supermarket, such as drinks, flour and meat, we enjoy the diverse offerings at the huge daily fruit and vegetable market. Kava can also be purchased here.
Die Preise sind günstig, die Ware frisch und sauber. Schnell haben wir mehr gekauft als wir wahrscheinlich essen können. Der Parkplatz kostet 20 cent, sechs Tomaten 1 Euro, 10 Bananen oder 1 Ananas jeweils 1,30 Euro. Wir können bis nah an den Anleger fahren und schleppen alle Einkäufe aufs Schiff. Unsere neue Sackkarre bewährt sich hierbei nicht, denn außer einem 12`er Pack Milch haben wir nur viele Einzelteile und -taschen.
The prices are cheap, the goods are fresh and clean. We quickly bought more than we could probably eat. The parking lot costs 20 cents, six tomatoes 1 euro, 10 bananas or 1 pineapple 1.30 euros each. We can drive close to the pier and carry all our purchases onto the ship. Our new hand truck doesn’t work well here because apart from a 12-pack of milk, we only have a lot of individual parts and bags.
